The Coveted (but never used) Yarn
Let’s talk about the untouchable skeins. You know the ones! Maybe you have had them for a few years, maybe a few months. We pull them out every once and a while, drool over them for a few minutes, give them a good squish and then tuck them away till it is time to repeat this ritual.
Do you know how excited I get when I see someone post a picture of a project that they are using their long time prized skein on? I get very excited! And here is why…
It’s not always easy filling the shop up with pretty yarn, but I work as hard as I can to dye as much as humanly possible so that people can have the colorways they have been longing for, or even just some impulse stash enhancers. And when those skeins leave me and go to their new keepers, the best part is seeing what they become! It makes all the hard work worth while when you see it being used in all the beautiful projects. So by you loving that yarn so hard that you never want to use it, you are depriving me of the moment I look forward to most. It may be selfish, but those skeins aren’t getting prettier sitting around in your stash.
Let me be clear… I have an armful of these coveted skeins. I admire them and think of all the ways I could use them, and then stash them away and say to myself “one day soon…”, and now I have so many that I have trouble deciding which one to use if I were gonna use just one of them. Some have even sat so long that they no longer bring the same glee they used to.
So, I guess the point if this is to encourage myself through encouraging you. Dig for those favorites and show them some love by letting that yarn dance around on your needles for a while until it finally becomes what it was meant to be, and find joy in knowing you just freed up space in your stash for another skein. Thats a win-win situation if you ask me!
